Boston QSP October 2019 Event Announcement
Boston QSP is excited to announce our October event in the Innovation in BioPharma & Digital Health series. This event will feature a talk by Dr. Dan Karlin CEO at HealthMode.co, and Chief Medical Officer at NightWare. The talk is titled "How Digital Technology is Changing What we Know and Can Know in Clinical Trials" and will be followed by a mixer and reception where you can enjoy great company and conversation with fellow community members over chilled craft beers and delicious pizza from a local small business.

Speaker Detail:
Dr. Dan Karlin is the CEO at HealthMode.co, and Chief Medical Officer at NightWare. He was previously the Head of Clinical, Informatics, and Regulatory Strategy for Digital Medicine atPfizer, having passed through a number of roles on the way to this position including SeniorDirector, Quantitative Medicine, Group Lead for Human Biology and Medical Informatics withPfizer’s Neuroscience Research Unit in Cambridge, MA. He is an Assistant Professor at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, and had been the Director of Psychiatry Informatics, and theAssociate Training Director for Psychiatry. His primary research interests are neuropsychiatric drug development, medical informatics, cognition in clinical medicine, and methods for medical education, especially as these relate to decision-making strategies used by medical professionals.In addition, Dr. Karlin is actively involved in designing and implementing information systems and resources for clinical and research use. Dr. Karlin trained in Psychiatry at Tufts Medical Center, attended medical school at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, and graduate school for Clinical Informatics and Cognitive Science as well as undergraduate studies in Neuroscience and Behavior at Columbia University. He is board-certified in Psychiatry, Addiction Medicine, and Clinical Informatics.
Abstract:
The ubiquity of mobile technologies that contain sensors capable of collecting clinical quality data, the emergence of novel analytical techniques, the availability of transmission and storage resources to support the collection of huge amounts of data, and computational resources to execute demanding models, have brought us toward the integration of latent and trial data. Dr. Karlin will discuss the opportunities and obstacles presented by the new era of data, information, and knowledge in clinical trials. Concrete examples of digital metrics that have been (or are in the process of being) implemented in this regard will be discussed.
