Boston QSP December 2019 Event Announcement
Boston QSP is excited to bring to you a panel conversation titled “Paths to Investment for Digital Medical Solutions” with experts in the field: Mahala Burn, Leyi Wang, and Stacy Swider. The panel discussion will be interactive and the audience will get to ask questions to the panelists. The panel discussion will be followed by a mixer and reception where you can enjoy great company and conversation with fellow community members over chilled craft beers and delicious food from Tuscan Kitchen.

Panelist Detail:
Mahala's job is to seek and enable cutting-edge, life-saving technologies worldwide to help patients and fight infectious disease. As the Director of Corporate Development and Strategic Financing at bioMérieux, she is responsible for new healthcare diagnostic technology scouting and dealmaking, with a special focus on startups. Before joining bioMérieux, Mahala was the operational Director of Parthenon-EY's Life Sciences Practice, where she was responsible for managing the business and development of the book Personalizing Precision Medicine. She earned her Cell Biology PhD at Yale University in the lab of Dean Lynn Cooley, and worked in biotech and healthcare strategy consulting at L.E.K. Consulting.
Leyi (Colin) Wang joined 6 Dimensions Capital as Executive Director in October 2019. He received his B.S degree in Biological Sciences in 2007 from Bates College, Lewiston, Maine, and Ph.D in Biophysics from Cornell University Graduate School of Medical Sciences, New York, in 2013. After graduation, he started his career as a Life Science Specialist/Associate Consultant at L.E.K. Consulting and then VP of equity research at Leerink Partners (now SVB Leerink), focusing on pharmaceutical and biotech companies. Subsequently, he worked at WuXi NextCODE as Director of Corporate Development during 2017-2018. Before joining 6 Dimensions, Leyi worked for Phoenix Tissue Repair as VP of Business Development, and BridgeBio Pharma (NASDAQ: BBIO) as Director of Portfolio Intelligence (Phoenix Tissue Repair is a Boston-based subsidiary of BridgeBio).
Stacy Swider is the Director of the UMass Lowell SBIR Center of Excellence. The office offers coaching and guidance to startups and small companies pursuing Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR/STTR) grants and contracts. These non-dilutive funding vehicles are offered by 12 Federal Agencies. Phase I programs are typically funded at $150-200k, and Phase II programs are typically funded at over $1M. These grants provide much-needed runway for prototype development, money for collaboration, and access to national labs. Stacy has over 25 years experience in startups and broader industry. She successfully commercialized a novel gamma sensor for nuclear safety through the SBIR process - - from initial proposal to pilot production. She has a degree is Materials Science from MIT.
